The Smithsonian Education team is charged with developing a national strategy for the Smithsonian with the goal of reaching every classroom across the country with educational resources. To accomplish this, we deploy and advance educational technologies, remove barriers to education, ensure equity and accessibility, support a well-rounded education and amplify the work of educational departments across the Smithsonian.

Under the Smithsonian Campaign for Our Shared Future, we are raising support for priorities including:

  1. Together We Thrive, an initiative that provides support for Smithsonian educators and collaborators to pilot and scale student-centered, inquiry-based, cross-curricular and STEAM learning.
  2. Learning Lab 2.0, a reimagined interactive platform that gives educators access to millions of Smithsonian digital resources.
  3. Smithsonian Rural Initiative, which enables the Smithsonian to deepen connections in communities across the country where we have not historically had a strong presence, especially in rural areas.
  4. Paid internships: Our goal is to provide 100% paid internships across the Smithsonian by January 2025.
  5. Beyond the Bell: Through this initiative, Smithsonian educators partner with out-of-school time youth organizations across the country to design high-quality, project-based learning experiences for pre-K-12 students. Collaborating organizations include 4-H and Boys & Girls Clubs of America, with others on the horizon.
  6. Youth & Family Learning: Smithsonian Associates provides a range of insightful and educational programs for learners of all ages. We are working to raise funds for scholarships and endowment support of our youth and family programs including the award-winning Discovery Theater, Summer Camp, and Smithsonian Sleepovers to ensure they are accessible to all.
