Women’s history is diverse, multifaceted and monumental, yet there are countless untold accounts of their accomplishments, lives and struggles for equality.
The Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum will be an enduring platform to share the richness of their stories. It will tell the story of America through women’s experiences— individually and as a whole—in ways that inspire us all to understand our history and ourselves.
We are creating a world-class museum from the ground up. This includes sourcing a national collection, curating permanent and special exhibitions and developing educational resources that will be immediately available online. The museum will share the full diversity of American women’s perspectives and experiences, expand the historical record and enrich our collective understanding.
With a broad coalition of supporters who recognize the profound impact of women on our nation’s history and future, the Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum will raise $200 million by 2026, coinciding with the nation’s 250th anniversary. Join us to change the way we tell the story of America—to give the women who came before us the prominence they deserve and inspire people for generations to come.
